     People are finding out that what they THOUGHT was security does not exist...at least not out there somewhere with the greedy grown-ups you trusted to keep you in childhood forever....everything is inside, where the power and poise are to be found....just a shift away, as the Stones sing, don't they? It's just a shift away.

     So happy birthday to Keith who turns 65 and can collect old age pension.....people don't realize what a health nut he actually is, it's so much more fun to focus on the abuse.....

        My friend Bev sent me an email because it was Jane Austen's birthday last week and she knew my most recent book about Jane was out and about. Terry Hill and I just got word from Chawton, England that Jane's former house, now a museum, loves our book and wants to sell it from there. Here's what Bev sent:

     Jane Austen published her books anonymously; the byline stated that the book was by "a Lady." Not many people read her books while she was alive, though she had a small, devoted readership. She died in 1817.

     Five decades later, her nephew published A Memoir of Jane Austen (1869), which generated widespread interest in his aunt and led to the reprinting of her novels. It touched off a sort of mania for Jane Austen in the 1880s, known as "Austenolatry." But it wasn't until the 1940s - more than 100 years after she died - that Austen's work became the focus of substantial academic scholarship. Austen is now standard reading on high school and college curricula.

     There are numerous groups devoted to her work, and thousands of self-proclaimed "Janeites." The Janeites in the U.S. are likely members of JASNA, the Jane Austen Society of North America, "dedicated to the enjoyment and appreciation of Jane Austen and her writing." At its first meeting in 1979, 100 people gathered at the Gramercy Park Hotel in Manhattan.

     Today, the Jane Austen Society of North America has more than 4,000 members and 60 regional groups. JASNA organizes tours to England to visit Austen-themed sites. It publishes an annual online journal, Persuasions On-Line.

     And it holds an annual fall meeting in a North American city, and over the course of three days, there are lectures by Austen scholars, English country dancing, and picnics like the one described at Box Hill in Emma, where each picnicker brings a dish to share and carries it in a wicker basket.

I burned a few cairelos thinking up titles for your novel, too. How come I'm not skinny? In fact, I woke up from a dream with title for your novel. Wasting time thinking up titles is better than computer solitaire, something the devil invented to keep folks from writing. Besides, there's that delusion that if you come up with the perfect catchy title some agent will generalize it to the entire novel and send a contract and a big fat check posthaste. Or is that post haste? Over 50 writers who could once spell really well (me) are finding that they no longer can and if you have dyslexia (me) host paste looks correct too BTW, setting limits for children and electronics actually adds cairelos it drives one to drink alcohol which is replete with cairelos. And that's one cute teenager in the photo.

So did his equally well educated peers. In those days, many different spellings of the same word were accepted and not considered serious offenses.

Two of them hooked me. Amanda Grange's story about the young Mr Bennet is a very itrsteening idea. How DID he hook up with her? And what she did as far as the opening makes it sound very promising and very true to Austen. What Would Austen Do? had me ROTFL. The one line about going the full Catherine DeBourgh and the Elton line were priceless. Or at least worth the price of a book. Putting in my order today at the local book store.
